Work is now underway to return one of Camperdown’s largest commercial buildings to a centre for exercise, fun and fitness.
Nick Hose Fitness has received planning approval to redevelop the town’s former Foodworks supermarket into a professional training centre and public gym.
The building, at 2 Brooke Street, was originally built in 1986 as an indoor sport centre and became a supermarket in 1990. Foodworks closed its doors in February this year.
Mr Hose said evaporative cooling was the first thing being installed to the 630 square-metre building, which would open from 6am to 9pm everyday.
“The new Nick Hose Fitness facility will have a dedicated classroom, a main gym equipment floor, a personal training studio and change rooms,” he said.
“We’ve outgrown our existing facilities in Campbell Street and saw this building as an opportunity to provide a centre where people’s specific needs can be better catered for.
“From supervised equipment training to group classes, one-on-one personal training and specialised training programs, we’ll have plenty of space to do it all really well.”
Mr Hose said he was passionate about his own fitness and knew that good facilities, quality gym equipment and professional advice were critical to helping many more members of the local community to become happier and healthier.
“We take a holistic approach with our clients and work in conjunction with allied health professionals such as nutritionists and physios to personalise our services,” he said.
“We can take photos and full measurements to track people’s results, maintain their privacy and help them achieve their personal health and wellbeing goals.”
Mr Hose said three other personal trainers would be employed at the new Brooke Street public gym and training centre, which was scheduled to open towards the end of May.
